Pike Season at Baden Hall Fishery

Pike Season Kicks Off at Baden Specimen Lakes – New Rules in Effect

  • Posted Thursday, 16 October 2025

As the temperatures drop and autumn sets in, we’re gearing up for one of the most exciting times of the year – Pike Season at Baden Specimen Lakes! From 1st November until the end of February, anglers will once again have the opportunity to target pike across our waters.

To ensure fish welfare and maintain the high standards of angling at Baden, a few important new rules have been introduced for the coming season. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with these before your next visit.

🎣 Techniques Allowed

  • Dead bait
  • Drifting
  • Spinning
  • Drop shotting

⚠️ Pike Fishing Rules

  • No Live Baiting.
  • Hooks and trebles must be barbless or semi-barbed (crushed) at all times.
  • Minimum line strength: 15lb mono or 30lb braid.
  • Braided lines may only be used when lure fishing, spinning for pike, or drifting and must be no less than 30lb breaking strain.
  • Wire traces are mandatory for all pike fishing.
  • Minimum trace length: 16”.
  • Minimum trace strength: 20lb.
  • Long forceps and side cutters/pliers are required by all anglers – minimum 7 inches in length.
  • Always strike early – do not wait for the pike to swallow the bait, as this can result in deep hooking.

These rules are in place to ensure the welfare of our fish and to promote safe, sustainable pike angling throughout the season. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Tight lines – and we look forward to seeing some stunning pike catches over the coming months!

Duck Pond Full lake Bookings

Duck Pond Full Lake Bookings

  • Posted Monday, 10th June 2024

We gave Bobby an opportunity to fish our new lake to give you all an idea of tactics and stock on this fantastic new water. Read below and watch part 1 of his video series on Duck Pond.

After a couple of walks around I decided on fishing the far end of the lake from the car park as this area give me several options on where to fish to and a good area to view the most water.

Knowing the stock was in the 60’s I decided on starting with a simple bottom bait on one rod with a small handful of boilies over the top and a single hook bait Ronnie rig on the second rod. Although this worked (on the bottom bait rod) for the first 2 fish it was clear the method on either rod wasn’t going to keep working so a change was made to a PVA bag containing pellet, crushed boilie, active mix along with a 12mm pop-up hook bait fished Withy pool style.

Not long after changing tactics on one of the rods it became clear the PVA bag method was working so the choice was made to go all out on both rods. I must of tied at least 50 PVA bags over the session fishing hard through the day and night including tying a new batch of Withy pool rigs at 2am one night! All the hard work was worth it in the end as the result was me landing a 3rd of the total stock of the lake.

An epic and tiring fishing session I will not forget in a hurry.
21 takes of which 19 fish was landed
10 x 20’s biggest going 25lb and 9 fish between 16lb and 20lb

Big thank you to Baden Hall Fisheries for giving me this opportunity.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Posted Monday, 10 December 2018

Specimen Waters
Quarry there are bites happening but it’s all about the zigs, but fish are being lost on them. To try and eliminate any chance of losing a fish on zigs make sure you drop your leads and your hooks are ultra-sharp, even if it means touching them up with a hook file. A good starting point is mid layers and upwards with the length of the zigs. Good colours are black, black and white, black and red and red, but it’s always wise to play around with the colours as you never know!
Bridge/Glovers
Zigs again can play a big part but recently fish have been lost off solid bags with maggots and Cell chopped and crumbed boilies.

Runs Waters
Dam Pool
Pink pop ups over a small bed of boilie chops and maggots are catching a few fish on the Dam at the moment. Fish being caught down the ledge and under the overhanging trees.
Middle Pool
Small pink or white pop ups catching a few fish at the moment with just a light scattering of 10mms over the top. Zigs are also worth a go and if you’re with another angler its worth trying both methods to find out where they are and what they want. Glugging up foam or small pop ups on the zigs are the best methods.
Lodge Pool
Fish tight around the island and under any overhanging bushes this where the fish are. Small bright pop ups and just a light scatter of boilies or chops are the best methods for a few bites.

Pleasure Waters
If you’re after some nice silvers and small carp float fishing with maggot or caster and just a small cup in of micro pellet, maggot and ground bait works well.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Posted Saturday, 28 April 2018

Specimen Waters
A lot of fish have been caught off the quarry and Bridge Pool on zigs these past few weeks and that's day and night. Black foam seems the one on the Quarry, and colours with black foam on Bridge. A few are starting to come off the bottom now though on Bridge to naked chods as well as the zigs. If we get any warmer weather surface fishing can be deadly. Glovers has been a bit slow, but if anglers fished the zigs a bit more fish would get caught.

Runs Waters
All 3 runs waters are fishing very well with fish being caught off the surface and the bottom. Dam Pool always fishes well in the margins down the drop off and just off the overhanging trees with a scattering of boilie crumb, pellet, and hemp and good starting point. Never forget the surface now though as you will see plenty on the top if you walk around. Lodge Pool is all about the far margins and near margins of a night when it's quiet, and again a good surface water. Middle Pool the fish are regular on the wind now in numbers especially fresh warm ones. Again a brilliant surface water and one that does respond to baited areas with a good spod mix.

Pleasure Waters
A great place to take the kids to catch some cracking carp to under 10lb, and some good silvers on lakes like Mallards and Canal. The Duck Pond is one most forgotten about with plenty of carp to low double figures and are ideal for the pleasure anglers. All methods work well and bait but not in large volumes. Pole, tip rod and float fishing are good methods for these lakes.

Baden Hall Fishery tips for the week

HOW'S IT FISHING

  • Posted Tuesday, 27 March 2018

Specimen Waters
The fish are starting to wake up and show with a 43 and 47lb fish landed the weekend. The fish at this time of year start to move in to shallow areas around islands, plateaus and bars to clean off any parasites and get some sun on the backs. This is the time of year when zigs can play a big part, but also a bit of bait in those raised or shallower areas. Boilie crumb, hemp, pellet, and a corn mixed is a good option for these areas as proved the weekend. A good set of polarised glasses are an essential bit of kit now to find these areas and spot fish.

Runs Waters
Like the specimen waters the fish are getting higher up in the water and moving into shallower areas to rub themselves on clay for the nutrients or to remove any parasites. Now and over the weekend zigs played a big part on the runs waters, and the margins. No need to over bait just yet so a few handfuls of crumb, pellet, boilie crumb, and corn are a good starting point. A fair amount of fish are starting to show on the surface more now on sunny days so don't rule out floaters and surface fishing.

Tips & Tactics

  • Posted Monday, 26 February 2018

Specimen Waters
Glovers is all about the zigs at the moment with all the fish that have been caught recently falling to bright foam from 18 inches to 3ft high. The same could happen on the Bridge and Quarry, but the heights could vary depending on what depth of water you are fishing in. Just fishing for a bite is the way forward with the cold weather still with us. Bright single pop ups, small stick mixes, and maybe maggots could be worth a try.

Runs Waters
Bright pop ups are working well at the moment and just a very light scattering of bait. If it's a bright sunny day don't rule out zigs.

Pleasure Pools
The Humble maggot will always get you plenty of bites at this time of year for silvers and small carp. Small feeders with ground baits, maggots and casters and micro pellet will get that tip rod bent round with some good quality bream, roach, chub or barbel. No need to over feed at this time of year.

October fishing tips

Tips for the week ahead

  • Posted Thursday, 05 October 2017

For Middle Pool a spread of boilies or a load of boilie chops spodded out with bright pop ups over the top. Dam Pool fish are down into the deeper ledges, use boilie and pellets, wafters or balanced baits. For Lodge use the same methods. The Quarry, fish for a bite with solid bags, stringers or mesh bags, light baiting advised. Same tactics for Glovers and The Bridge Pool.

Tips for the week ahead

  • Posted Thursday, 06 July 2017

The carp on all the lakes now are being influenced by the winds and you will find a lot of fish on the windward banks. Fish are still well catchable on the surface so don't rule that tactic out, and especially were you might have calmer water. Good beds of mixed particle and pellet is doing well on the runs waters at the moment, with Lodge and Middle Pool fishing very well over this method. Over on the specimen waters it is essential to spend a bit of time finding those clear spots, and its paying off for the ones that spend that bit of extra time.

Tips For The Week

  • Posted Monday, 24 June 2017

We have a lot milder weather this week, and low pressure but the fish are still on the surface and up in the layers. Surface fishing is the method to use to catch some cracking carp on all of our waters at the moment and through the week. On the 3 main Specimen waters it's crucial to lead around with your braided marker rod, don't bother with a marker float just a bare lead is far easier to use and to find clear spots.

The fish seem to want a bit of bait so a good mix of hemp, corn, pellet and boilie chops is a good option and you then have a variety of hook bait options to fish over the top with. The same goes on the runs waters just that you need a lot as a small 2 pint bag is no good. A good day's floater fishing you want a couple of kilo of floaters. Fish are still following fresh winds on all the lakes so keep this in mind when picking swims.
